Kyle Edmund has defeated Ernesto Escobedo in straight sets to reach the third round of the US Open.
The British number three is making his debut at Flushing Meadows but he is through to the last 32 with a 7-5 6-4 6-4 triumph over the American wildcard.
The pair traded breaks during the early stages of the match but it was Edmund who took the opener after striking for a second time in the 11th game.
Escobedo was competing well with the 21-year-old from the back of the court but Edmund was producing the better tennis at the key moments and he broke his opponent's serve at the end of both the second and third sets to come through in two hours and 25 minutes.
Edmund will now play either John Isner or Steve Darcis for a place in the last 16.
