Roger Federer has booked his place in the fourth round of the US Open with a straight-sets win over Philipp Kohlschreiber.
The five-time champion didn't have it all his own way against the 29th seed but he was never in danger of a surprise defeat as he secured his progress with a 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory.
Federer broke early in the first set on the way to comfortably moving ahead in the match, but Kohlschreiber struck on the Swiss's serve in the second, the first time it had been broken all tournament.
However, the former world number one remained composed to play the better tennis on the bigger points, although he fell a break down early in the third.
Back came the 34-year-old though, who broke in the third and ninth games to remain on course for his first appearance in the final since 2009.
