Britain's Johanna Konta has earned a spot in the second round of the US Open with a comfortable straight-sets win over Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
The 25-year-old earned a 6-3 6-3 victory in one hour and 24 minutes at Flushing Meadows in New York.
Konta showed her intent instantly as she created two break points, but Mattek-Sands managed to hold her opening service game.
The American lost her next serve, though, and she failed to bounce back as Konta wrapped up the opener with a break point in 39 minutes.
The Brit went 3-1 up in the second, and she kept hold of her momentum by later saving three break points and preventing a Mattek-Sands comeback.
