Johanna Konta has been beaten in straight sets by Shahar Peer in the first round of the US Open this evening.
The Briton was broken early on, but fought hard to keep herself in contention in the first set, before the world number 155 upped her game to clinch the opener.
A series of mistakes at the start of the second cost the world number 118 another early break, while a couple of double faults later in the set gave Peer a 4-1 lead as she closed in on a place in the second round.
Konta won her next two games to force her opponent to serve for the match, and pushed the Israeli hard in the final game, but Peer held her nerve to force a backhand mistake from the Brit to secure the match.
Peer will face either Garbine Muguruza or Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in the next round.
