Marin Cilic has advanced to the second round of the US Open with a 6-2 7-5 7-6 victory over Ryan Anderson.
The Croatian began the match brightly and broke his opponent on two occasions to record a 6-2 victory in the opening set.
American Anderson improved thereafter, but was unable to prevent the world number 26 from recording a straight sets win in New York.
The 22-year-old will now face either Michael Yani or Bernard Tomic in the next round.
