The number 28 seed proved too powerful for her Dutch opponent and dismantled her in lightning-quick time.
The win comes the day after her sister Venus pulled out of the US Open suffering from autoimmune disease.
Serena will face either Victoria Azarenka or Gisela Dulko in the next round.
