Simona Halep has booked a place in the second round of the US Open after Marina Erakovic was forced to retire from the match at Flushing Meadows due to injury.
The 2014 French Open finalist started strongly by going a break up at the first time of asking in the opening game.
The pressure was on Erakovic to respond, and while she was able to hold serve in the next two games, she was unable to create a single break point.
Erakovic was damaged further when Halep broke serve again to take a 5-2 lead before comfortably successfully serving for the set.
After winning 91% of her first serves, Halep continued her dominance by breaking twice and easing to a 3-0 lead before her opponent was forced to abandon the match.
