Caroline Wozniacki has reached the quarter-finals of the US Open by beating former champion Maria Sharapova 6-4 2-6 6-2 this evening.
The 10th seed capitalised on the Russian's early serving struggles to lead 3-0 in the first set, but the world number six soon drew level.
However, Sharapova continued to find it difficult to serve consistently, allowing Wozniacki to get another break and claim the opening set.
The fifth seed began to find her form in the second, hitting several big forehand winners on her way to getting the match back on level terms.
The Russian could not maintain her momentum in the third set though, losing her serve early on as the Dane raced to a 5-2 lead.
Sharapova attempted to serve to keep herself in the match, but Wozniacki returned well to book her spot in the last eight, where she will face Italy's Sara Errani.
