Good morning and welcome to Sports Mole's live commentary from day nine of the 126th Wimbledon Championships in London.
Rain again threatened to play havoc with the men's fourth-round fixtures, but all matches were finally completed on day eight.
British hope Andy Murray comfortably defeated Croatian Marin Cilic to book his spot in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Jo Wilfred-Tsonga overcame a troublesome back to record a three-sets-to-one win over the tough American Mardy Fish.
David Ferrer and Phillip Kohlschreiber also advanced. Meanwhile, the women's semi-final lineup was completed with Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Angelique Kerber and Agnieszka Radwanska all advancing.
Today is men's quarter-final day – with Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic all in action.
19.46Right, that's all from us today. We hope you've enjoyed our coverage of events from SW19 and hope that you can join us tomorrow for the women's semi-finals day. Angelique Kerber and Agniezska Radwanska are first up before Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka slog it out. It's sure to be another fantastic day and hope you can be there with us to follow it. Thank you and goodnight! 19.43More from Murray: 'It was so close. If I lost that fourth set it was going to be a very tough fight. On facing Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semis: '[It will be] a tough match. He's serving very well. I'll have to play very well to win that one.'
19.41Murray: 'It was a very tough match, a long match. There were some tense moments.'I just played a little bit better in the end. [Ferrer's] a great player and he doesn't get enough respect, personally.'
19.39He's done it! The British number four seed reaches the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the fourth consecutive year as a powerful ace finally sees off Ferrer. Murray dug very deep there and will take so much out of this triumph. Meanwhile you have to feel sorry for Ferrer who was appearing in the quarter-finals at SW19 for the first time in his career. As expected he fought hard and pushed his opponent all the way but it ultimately wasn't enough. 19.37GAME, SET AND MATCH! Ferrer 7-6[5] 6-7[6] 4-6 6-7[4] Murray 19.36Murray brings up two match points... 19.34Murray now leads 4-2 as Ferrer shoots wide. 19.34But an ace pulls it back to 3-3 before another one puts him 4-3 ahead. 19.32Murray fires long and he's down 2-3. 19.32A sensational backhand winner from Ferrer makes it 2-2. Quite brilliant. 19.30First blood to the Brit as he gets the mini-break with a lethal backhand. 19.29A clinical service game from Murray as he holds to take this into a tie-break, a tie-break that Ferrer has to win to stay in the Championships. 19.26It's a good start to this second session for the Spaniard who holds. Murray will now serve to stay in the set. Instant tension on Centre Court. 19.23Here we go then, Ferrer to serve... 19.21The two men are going to have a brief warm-up before getting back underway. Murray currently leads by two sets to one but it 5-5 in the fourth. When they do start it'll be Ferrer to serve. 19.19The players are coming back out... 19.16Another reminder of what's in store tomorrow: It's women's semi-finals day which sees Angelique Kerber take on Agniezska Radwanska and Serena Williams face Victoria Azarenka. Both of those matches certainly offer their own styles with the first focused on technique and the second based on raw power. 19.11This gives us a good chance to remind you of the other quarter-final results today. Defending champions Novak Djokovic breezed past Florain Mayer and will now face Roger Federer in the last four after the six-time winner saw off Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets. Elsewhere, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Philipp Kohlschreiber in four sets and will take on Andy Murray or David Ferrer in the semis. Rafael Nadal aside, the big guns are still very much in there. 19.08The rain does seem to have stopped now which means the players should be back out shortly. That said, this is Wimbledon and nothing is certain. 19.06Both of these players are also looking to have the upper hand in terms of their head-to-head meetings. It's currently 5-5 with Ferrer winning their last encounter in the quarter-finals of the French Open. 19.03Just to recap: Andy Murray currently leads David Ferrer by two sets to one. The two men are locked at 5-5 in the fourth having played three hours and 38 minutes of tennis. 19.01By the sounds of it the roof is not going to be used. A light shower it looks to be. 19.00Here we go, the covers are coming on. I guess the next question is whether it's a passing shower or if they need to deploy the roof. 18.59It looks like discussions are being had with regards to the weather. The umbrellas have gone up but it's unclear if the players are staying put. 18.58A real statement of intent from Murray there as he holds to love, his final point a delightful backhand right into the corner. It's 5-5. 18.55Ferrer holds what is surely one of the games of the match so far. First he brings up the advantage with an incredible forehand before sealing the game with a smash. This guy just keeps going and going. 18.51Nearly! Oh so very nearly! Murray hits a forehand down the line but it's inches too long and we're at deuce. Ferrer fighting superbly here. 18.50Ferrer saves one thanks to a Murray error. 18.49Oh my! Murray hits a wonderful backhand across court and now has two break points... 18.46And Murray holds as Ferrer fires long. It looked dicey for the world number four there but he scrapped hard to hold. It's now 4-4. 18.45...but Murray saves both of them with a couple of points at the net. 18.44A brilliant rally ends with Murray hitting the net AGAIN and it brings up two break point for Ferrer... 18.43The great Andre Agassi raises an eyebrow in the royal box as Murray hits the net twice. It's 15-30 on his serve... 18.41Murray still has a horrible habit of getting the simple shots wrong. Will it cost him this fourth set? 18.40Just as I type that Ferrer digs in to hold Murray off. The Spaniard leads 4-3. 18.38That's mightily impressive from Murray to hold again to love. You just get the feeling that he's going to pounce soon for what would be a vital break. 18.35A couple of errors from Murray hands Ferrer a hold of serve. It's now 2-2 and only getting more tense. How are your fingernails? 18.32Both men are still full of energy out there and looking as if they'll give nothing away as Murray hits an ace to hold serve. 18.29Murray puts his shot into the net and Ferrer holds to lead 2-1. The groundstaff have been seen lurking on the sidelines of Centre Court... 18.28There's light rain falling now at SW19. The players are still out there for the moment... 18.26Meanwhile, Ferrer is still hanging in there but Murray holds to make it 1-1 on Centre Court. 18.24Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is through to the semi-finals after a four-set victory over Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber. The French fifth seed will play either Murray or Ferrer in the last four. 18.22GAME, SET AND MATCH! Tsonga 7-6[5] 4-6 7-6[3] 6-2 Kohlschreiber 18.21It's a solid start from Ferrer in this fourth set as he holds to go 1-0 in front. 18.18No doubting Murray there as he fires his 12th ace of the match to take the set. That was hugely impressive from the Brit. That said, Ferrer is sure to put up a fight for the remainder of the contest. 18.16SET! Ferrer 7-6[5] 6-7[6] 4-6 Murray 18.14And he takes it! Ferrer can't keep the return in and the fourth seed leads 5-4. He'll now serve for the set. 18.13Murray slams a huge forehand winner across court to bring up a break point... 18.13It's at deuce on the Ferrer serve... 18.09Murray keeps the pressure up and holds serve. 18.07As is so often the case, Murray slips on the grass but Ferrer puts his lob too long and it's 15-0. 18.05Not much to work with for Murray there as a determined Ferrer also holds to love. The Spaniard leads 4-3. 18.02The Brit shows a wide range of shots in that service game to hold to love and bring this one to 3-3. 18.00Okay then, it's been some battle so far, hasn't it? Murray to serve at 2-3 in this third set. 17.59Right, that's me for today. I shall hand you over to my colleague Jack Prescott for the remainder of Ferrer vs. Murray. Tsonga claims the third-set tie-break against Kohlschreiber to move two-sets-to-one ahead. 17.56Ace number 11 from Murray moves the Scot advantage ahead - and he secures the hold with Ferrer finding the net once more. 17.54... but Murray fires a powerful forehand to level it at 40-40. 17.54Murray saves the first as Ferrer hits the net from close range. However, he has another... 17.52Meanwhile, it's sloppy from Murray as he double faults to hand Ferrer two break points. 17.52Indeed it has entered a tie-break. 17.50Ferrer holds to move 2-1 ahead in the third set. Meanwhile, Tsonga and Kohlscreiber appears to be heading for a tie-break in the third. 17.48Brilliant drop shot from Murray as he moves 30-15 behind Ferrer. However, an overhead smash from the Spaniard secures a 40-15 lead. 17.46Just a couple of errors creeping into Ferrer's game as Murray holds to level it at 1-1. 17.44Ferrer holds to take a 1-0 lead in the third. You just know that this one is heading for five. 17.42Murray misses the chance to take a 0-30 lead in the opening game of the third as he hits the net from close range. The long rallies between these two are back. 17.40Meanwhile, Tsonga and Kohlschreiber remains on serve at 4-5 in the third. 17.40What a wonderful match we have had thus far. This is what Wimbledon is all about. Just brilliant. 17.38...SET! Murray takes it! He has one serve remaining. 17.34However, a powerful serve from Ferrer sends the Spaniard back into the lead. 17.34Murray levels at 5-5 as Ferrer hits the net! 17.32He takes the first with a powerful forehand - and the second with an ace. 5-4 Ferrer. 17.32Simply too good from Ferrer as he moves 5-2 ahead. Murray must win the next two on serve. 17.30However, the Scot then fires wide to hand Ferrer a 4-2 lead. 17.30An ace gets Murray back into it at 1-3 - before a delicate drop shot makes it 3-2. 17.28Make that 3-0 as Murray hits the net once more. The Scot has to recover here. 17.28And it's quickly 2-0 as Murray fires long. 17.28Brilliant from Ferrer as he places a forehand past Murray to take a 1-0 lead in the tie-break. 17.26Murray hits the net! It's poor from the Scot as he drops it just too short - before hitting the net. We head for another tie-break. 17.24What do we have here? Ferrer fires just wide and we sit level at 30-30 on the Spaniard's serve. 17.24Meanwhile, Tsonga and Kohlschreiber remains on serve at 3-3 in the second set. 17.22Murray does hold! Game on! Surely the Scot cannot go two-sets-to-nil down? 17.06Just a reminder that Djokovic and Federer will clash in the semi-finals following their respective wins earlier. Meanwhile, the winner of this one will face Tsonga or Kohlscreiber. 17.04However, the little Spaniard holds on to level it at 4-4 in the second set. Who will blink first in this one? 17.02Ferrer continues to impress on serve as he moves 30-0 ahead. However, two points from Murray levels it at 30-30. 17.00Meanwhile, three straight points for Murray keeps this one on serve at 3-4 in the second. 16.59SET! However, the Spaniard has two game points. 16.35Murray continues to hit unforced errors in the early stages of this one. It took me a while to get used to the conditions, having played my last three games indoors. It was a little windy, but I'm satisfied with the overall performance. Florian had some oppotunities to come back in the third set, as well as chances in the first, but I held my nerve at the important moments. I came back after the rain delay and lost five or six points in a row, so I don't know whether it helped. It took a while but I found the rhythm. It's always a pleasure playing against Roger, so I'm looking forward to that. He's been so dominant and consistent in Grand Slams, it's the ultimate challenge on a grass court," he told the BBC. 15.28Murray holds as Ferrer fires wide - but boy did he have to work for it. 1-1 in the opening set. 15.26However, Murray staves off the threat with an ace, before Ferrer fires wide. However, he fires the first wide. 14.24It's all going wrong for Youzhny as Federer takes a 0-30 lead on the Russian's serve. 14.22Brilliant serving from Federer once more as he takes a 4-2 lead in the second set. Meanwhile, Djokovic and Mayer are level at 1-1 in the second. 14.20Here's a word from former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash: "Federer's in full flow. I'm not expecting Mexico - but a dry spell would be nice. 13.44BBC are just running the highlights of the Djokovic match thus far. Mayer has been really impressive in the opener. 13.42Why was the roof not put on before I hear you ask? Federer has made the point that this is an 'outside tournament' and therefore should be open to the elements. 13.40It is understood that a decision will soon be made as to whether the roof is to be put over Centre. That takes around 30 minutes. 13.38As it stands - Federer leads 4-1 and 30-40 on the Youzhny serve. Meanwhile, Djokovic leads Mayer 4-3 in the opener. 13.36Here comes the rain as expected. Oh the elements! 13.36PLAY SUSPENDED ON CENTRE COURT AND COURT ONE. 13.36Just delightful from Federer as he produces a delicate drop shot to set up two break points. 13.34Youzhny hits the net to hand Federer a 15-30 lead. The Russian just cannot miss shots like that. 13.34Weather update: Simple one this time. It is raining. 13.32BBC have just spotted England football boss Roy Hodgson in the crowd. He seems to be enjoying his day on Centre. 13.32Another quick hold for Federer as he storms into a 4-1 lead in the opening set. 13.30Meanwhile, Djokovic has broken straight back against Mayer. No surprise there! 13.30However, Youznhy does get himself on the board with a solid enough hold. Federer leads 3-1 in the opening set. 13.28Stunning backhand from Federer as he moves 0-15 ahead. Youzhny must hold here. 13.26What do we have here? Mayer has broken Djokovic to lead 3-2 in the opening set! 13.26Federer just looks a class above at the moment as he holds his serve with ease. The highlight being a wonderful drop shot at 15-0. 13.24Meanwhile, Djokovic and Mayer remains on serve at 2-2 in the first. 13.22Federer finally breaks at the fifth time of asking to move 2-0 ahead in the opening set. 13.21It appears that neither player wants to win this second game. It has gone on for 10 minutes. 13.19Again the pair exchange points as we sit level. Meanwhile, Djokovic has moved 2-1 ahead of Mayer. 13.17Federer passes up the chance to break as he fires long. We remain at 40-40 once more. Youzhny just has to get off to a good start here. 13.16A 40-0 lead for Youzhny vanishes as we sit at deuce. 13.16Wonderful from Federer as he whips a forehand right onto the line to move 30-40 behind. Just brilliant. 13.14Meanwhile, Mayer has levelled it at 1-1 in the opening set against Djokovic. 13.14Nice bright start on Youzhny's serve as he comes to the net to move 30-0 ahead. 13.12Federer joins him in a flash as he holds his opening serve in less than a minute. 13.12Meanwhile, Djokovic and Mayer are also underway - and the Serbian has held to love in the opening game. 13.10Here we go then. We are underway on Centre. Although, it is understood that rain is on the way. 13.08What about the rise of the Germans this year? We had four of them in the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first time - including the women. 13.06The roof remains open on Centre. However, I would not be surprised to see it closed at some point. 13.04Federer wins the toss - and it is understood that Youzhny will serve first. 13.02The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - Kate and William have joined us on Centre. Meanwhile, the players are also emerging onto the court. 13.00Weather update: A few drops of rain have begun to fall. NO! 12.58Meanwhile, Tsonga has his Ipod out as he prepares for his match. It appears that he could be listening to the Backstreet Boys. 12.56Henman Hill/Murray Mound is also filling up nicely ahead of the action. 12.54Meanwhile, everything has been prepared on Centre. The air-conditioning is on full-blast. It is almost time! 12.52My prediction for the final four? Federer, Murray, Djokovic and Tsonga. Four of the top six players in the world. 12.50If the Scot reaches the final - he will become the first British man to do so since Bunny Austin in 1938. 12.48Rafael Nadal, Juan Martin Del Potro, Andy Roddick and the rest have all fallen. And now just eight remain. Could it be Murray's year? 12.46Just a reminder that Federer vs. Youzhny and Djokovic vs. Mayer will begin at 1pm. Meanwhile, Ferrer vs. Murray and Tsonga vs. Kohlschreiber will follow. 12.44The pair met in a warm-up event for Wimbledon in Germany. Federer claimed a 6-1 6-4 victory with ease. However, today is another day. 12.42However, he is up against a man who has been dubbed the 'greatest'. Federer has just the six Wimbledon titles to his name - in addition to four Australian Open titles, one French and five US Open's. Not too bad I suppose. 12.40He also made the semi-finals of the US Open in 2010. Therefore, he is no stranger to the big stage. 12.38The Russian is currently ranked number 33 in the world - although he was inside the top 10 in 2008. He is playing in his first Wimbledon quarter-final today. However, he has reached the quarters of the Australian and the French. 12.36We are just about 25 minutes away from play on Centre. So what of Ferrer's opponent Youzhny? 12.34Murray's serve - far from the best on the tour - is also stronger than Ferrer's. One thing is for certain, neither player will let this one go without a fight. 12.32Ferrer has also won 94% of his service games at Wimbledon this year, to Murray's 92%. However, he gives away five years and six inches to his Scottish opponent. 12.30Ferrer - a wonderful clay-court player - has transformed his form onto hard and grass-courts in recent months. He has also spent two hours less than Murray on court at Wimbledon this year - which could prove to be an advantage. 12.28Let's look ahead to Murray's clash with Ferrer - which is arguably the tie of the quarter-finals. 12.26We will be focusing our immediate attention on Federer's match with Youzhny this afternoon. However, we will also bring you live updates from Djokovic vs. Mayer. 12.24The final spot was grabbed by Radwanska who also secured her first spot in a Grand Slam semi-final with a late-night victory over Maria Kirilenko. The pair started at 2.20pm on Court One, but ended up on Centre at 9.48pm where Radwanska claimed the win. 12.22Second seed Azarenka will face Williams following a hard-fought victory over the unseeded Austrian Tamira Paszek. Meanwhile, Angelique Kerber made her first Wimbledon semi-final after winning a tight clash against Sabine Lisicki under the roof on Centre. 12.20Focusing on the women's round of fixtures. Serena Williams knocked out defending champion Petra Kvitova in straight sets yesterday to book her spot in the final four. It was as good a performance I have seen from Williams in recent years - and she has returned to number four in the world. 12.18Meanwhile, Brian Baker's tournament was ended by Kohlschreiber - who has finally made the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam on his 33rd attempt. The German has well and truly taken advantage of the unexpected exit of Rafael Nadal in his half of the draw. 12.16Weather update: After a cloudy morning, the weather is expected to brighten up this afternoon. However, the odd shower could join us this evening. 12.14As mentioned, Tsonga also advanced. However, he remains troubled with a back injury and with less than a day's rest - it is going to be a real test of character for the Frenchman today. 12.12Meanwhile, Ferrer impressed as he hammered Juan Martin Del Potro to reach his first quarter-final spot at Wimbledon. The Spaniard's tenacity around the court proved too much for the much-fancied Argentine who won the US Open in 2009. 12.10Let's take another look at yesterday's action. Murray remained focused despite the break in play on Monday to book his quarter-final spot. The Scot found it comfortable against Cilic in arguably his best performance of the Championships so far. However, in David Ferrer, he faces the man he lost to in the French Open last month. 12.08We will bring you a weather update soon - not that those on Centre will care so much! Which brings us nicely to the debate of whether it is 'fair' on those on Court One. 12.06As mentioned, the women's semi-final line-up was completed on Tuesday. Here are the fixtures: Serena Williams vs. Victoria Azarenka and Angelique Kerber vs. Agnieszka Radwanska. 12.04The opening match on Court One pits defending champion Novak Djokovic against Florian Mayer - before Jo-Wilfried Tsonga clashes with the surprise package Phillip Kohlschreiber. 12.02Six-time champion Roger Federer opens up Centre Court today against Mikhail Youzhny. Meanwhile, David Ferrer clashes with a certain Mr Murray in match two. 12.00Afternoon all! It seems just yesterday that play began at this year's Championships. However, men's quarter-final day is now upon us - and what a line-up we have.
