World number two Victoria Azarenka has revealed that there was no chance that she would have been able to continue her campaign at Wimbledon.
The Belarusian had been due to take on Flavia Pennetta today, but the knee injury that she picked up during Monday's 6-1 6-2 victory over Maria Joao Koehler has deteriorated and she was forced to withdraw from the competition.
"As soon as I went out I felt it. This kind of injury takes about 48 hours to show if it's going to get better or worse," she told BBC Sport.
"In my case it has gone worse there is nothing really positive to say and I have to deal with it. I have to have a further examination. My scan shows bruising but my whole body has had to compensate from the fall."
The 23-year-old has never gone beyond the last four at SW19.
