Sports Mole looks ahead to Sunday's Wimbledon final between Andy Murray and Roger Federer.

You may have recently heard that Andy Murray will be taking on Roger Federer in the Wimbledon men's singles final on what is one of most anticipated Sunday afternoons in British sporting history.

It is a final which presents so much as Murray is bidding to become the first Brit in 76 years to win the tournament, while Federer is looking to equal Pete Sampras's record of seven titles at the All England Club and make a return to world number one.

In the two previous Grand Slam finals between the pair Murray has failed to take a single set off the multiple champion. However, the Scot is one of that rare breed that has a winning record against Federer, although they have never played on grass.

As the nation's collective head expands to the point of bursting, Sports Mole considers the two men who will take to Centre Court.

Previous best at Wimbledon:
Murray: Semi-finals 2009, 2010, 2011
Federer: Winner 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009

Record in 2012:
Murray: W26, L9
Federer: W39, L6

Head to head:
Murray 8-7 Federer

Where will the match be lost and won?
Considering Roger Federer's form against Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, the Swiss player looks to have made a magical return to somewhere near his best. Quite possibly the most versatile men's player of all time, the 30-year-old will be ready to exploit even the slightest of gaps in Murray's defence with his precise and powerful play around the court. Not that he'll be waiting for errors - Federer will take the fight to the Scot.

Meanwhile, Murray played some scintillating tennis as he dispatched Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the last round and he will arguably need to play with more aggression on Sunday. What he must do is keep his emotions in check as Federer will not let up if he sees his opponent berating himself.

Another interesting aspect of the contest is the role of the crowd. Murray has famously never won over every fan at SW19 but he will need all of their support this time if he is to pull through. In contrast, Federer is one of the most popular figures ever to have graced SW19 and he will have no shortage of backing, even against the home favourite.

Sports Mole says: Roger Federer to regain his Centre Court crown.
