Julien Benneteau advanced through to round two at Wimbledon courtesy of a 6-2 7-5 7-6[4] win over Gilles Muller this afternoon.
The Frenchman began the encounter the brighter of the two players and he went on to make the most of his domination by dropping just two games on his way to wrapping up the opening set.
Muller responded positively in the second set by breaking Benneteau's service game. The Luxembourg number one looked to be levelling up the scores at one set apiece until he was broken back by Benneteau.
He was then broken once again as Benneteau served out to take a two-set lead.
Benneteau broke early in the third set as he went about completing the victory in straight-sets. Muller reacted by levelling up proceedings with a break of his own, which forced the set into a tie-break.
Benneteau took control of the breaker immediately and went on to wrap up the match 7-4.
