British number one Andy Murray progresses to the fourth round at Wimbledon following a late-night win over Marcos Baghdatis in four sets.

British number one Andy Murray is through to the fourth round at Wimbledon following a late-night win over Marcos Baghdatis in four sets.

It had looked as though the match was going to have to be completed on Monday as tournament officials had said that play would be suspended on Centre Court at 11pm due to a curfew at the All England Club.

However, with Murray on the brink of victory, play was allowed to overrun slightly and the Scot wrapped up the 7-5 3-6 7-5 6-1 win at 11.02pm.

The match had begun four hours earlier and Murray claimed the opening set with a solitary break of serve.

He then broke again early in the second before Baghdatis stormed back into the match.

The world number 42 won five out of six games - four of them to deuce - to take the set 6-3 and level match.

Play was then temporarily suspended as the roof was closed and it was Baghdatis who drew first blood after the restart.

Murray created two break points early in the third, but he failed to convert either and was then punished as Baghdatis broke to 15 in the following game for a 3-2 lead.

The Scot immediately had the chance to level the set as he went 30-40 up on his opponent's serve, but Baghdatis produced three consecutive points of the highest quality to maintain his advantage.

Seemingly motivated by his missed opportunities, Murray won four of the next five games to claim the set 7-5 and celebrated with a flurry of fist pumps.

Murray then took control of the match, breaking twice in double-quick time before holding to love to seal the win as a nervous tournament director looked on.
