British number one Andy Murray, who was the champion in 2013, overcomes Vasek Pospisil in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.

Andy Murray kept alive his hopes of winning a second Wimbledon title this afternoon courtesy of a 6-4 7-6 6-4 quarter-final victory over Vasek Pospisil.

The opening two sets were hampered by the rainy conditions in London, but it was number three seed Murray that appeared to cope better with the stoppages in play.

In fact, the Scot claimed his maiden break of the encounter before the first downpour to open up a 2-1 lead. From there, Murray held his remaining service games to wrap up the opening set in 37 minutes.

The second set went with serve until the 11th game when, at 30 points apiece, Pospisil was handed a time violation warning by umpire Pascal Maria.

It seemed to have an adverse impact on the Canadian, who was subsequently broken thanks to a cross-court backhand stroke by Murray for a 6-5 lead. Moments later, Murray maintained his 100% serving record to open up a two-set advantage.

Throughout the third set, Murray was able to hold the majority of his service games with relative ease, while in contrast Pospisil was made to work hard.

He was finally broken in the ninth game, which left Murray with the chance to serve for the match and despite the fact that Pospisil earned himself a break point, the British number one eventually won through to book his place in the semi-final for the sixth time in his last seven Wimbledon outings.

Between the 28-year-old and a place in Sunday's final will be seven-time champion Roger Federer, who overcame Gilles Simon in straight sets earlier today.
