Simona Halep has revealed that she is "really happy" with her opening win over Eugenie Bouchard at the WTA Finals in Singapore.
The Romanian gained some revenge for her Wimbledon semi-final defeat to Bouchard by beating the Canadian 6-2 6-3 on Monday.
Having been out of action for nearly three weeks with a hip injury, Halep is pleased to be back on court and winning matches.
"I'm really happy I found my game again," she is quoted as saying by the WTA's official website. "I was very aggressive and made some winners. I played well. I'm really happy with this match, but Genie is a great player. She's very young and she'll be at the top soon, of course."
The end-of-season tournament got underway earlier on Monday with defending champion Serena Williams earning a 6-4 6-4 victory over Ana Ivanovic.
