Jodie Stimpson has revealed her delight after winning gold in the triathlon at the Commonwealth Games this afternoon.
Stimpson missed out on a spot at the 2012 Olympics, but banished such pain with victory in Motherwell, finishing ahead of Canadian Kirsten Sweetland and teammate Vicky Holland, who claimed bronze.
"It is absolutely fantastic. This medal isn't just for me, it is for all my family and my coach, Darren Smith," Stimpson told reporters.
"To be honest I didn't meet the criteria for London, obviously I was devastated but it gave me the kick up the backside that I needed, changing coach etc.
"I wasn't expecting everyone to stay with us (in the latter stages of the race), but when it is such a big championship everyone brings out everything they have got."
The men's race takes place later this afternoon.
