England's Emily Campbell smashed Commonwealth Games records left right and centre to take the gold medal in the women's +87kg on Wednesday.
The Tokyo 2020 silver medallist was England's flag-bearer for the 2022 Games in Birmingham and was seeking to upgrade her +90kg bronze from the Gold Coast four years ago.
It quickly became apparent that a two-horse race for the gold between Campbell and Samoa's Feagaiga Stowers would commence, with the former setting one new Games record with 124kg in the snatch after nailing her 117kg and 121kg attempts.
Campbell's 124kg also represented a personal best, but she was closely followed by Stowers, who failed one go at a 121kg snatch before succeeding at the second attempt to stay on the Brit's coat-tails.
Stowers was moving all over the shop during her 147kg clean & jerk but managed to save it, although she failed on both of her 154kg attempts to finish with a total of 268kg.
Campbell was already guaranteed the gold medal when Stowers went up for her second 154kg lift, but there was time for the 28-year-old to execute perfect 157kg and 162kg clean & jerk attempts.
Campbell ended with a whopping 286kg on the board to win gold for England - 18 clear of Stowers - while Australia's Charisma Amoe Tarrant won bronze with a total of 239kg.
