Women's downhill ski training stopped due to "too high" jump

With the first three downhill women's skiers all complaining about the height of the jump, the ISF decides to postpone the first session of practice to make alterations.

The first session of the women's downhill ski training at the 2014 Winter Olympics run has been postponed after three racers complained about the height of the jump.

Sochi officials will begin work on altering the jump, with plans in place for practice to resume later on Thursday afternoon.

Italy's Daniela Merighetti was the third competitor to take to the slope and after stating that she hurt both of her knees as she landed, the International Ski Federation made the call to stop the session.

"I'm relieved. You're high off the ground and you feel like you're never going to come down," fellow competitor Laurenne Ross of the USA told reporters.

"When you come down, you come down pretty hard. If we get any more speed over the next few days I think it would be better to have that shaved off."

Merighetti and Ross were just two of the three racers to trial the slope, while there are 53 other competitors now awaiting their turn.

Those who have already participated will be allowed to do so again once the course has been tweaked.
