Anastasiya Kuzmina has said that she is delighted to have won the gold medal in the women's 7.5km biathlon sprint at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The 29-year-old was born in the 2014 Games' host country, but took a Slovakian passport in 2008 through marriage because she was not allowed by the Russian team to take her child to training camps.
"Winning this medal in my homeland is a big thing, yes," Reuters quotes her as saying. "I have a Slovakian passport but I'm a Russian national.
"Here I'm at home. The atmosphere is so familiar. Everyone is so supportive, I feel so comfortable here."
Russia's Olga Vilukhina won silver, while Vita Semerenko of Ukraine clinched the bronze medal.
