Norwegian cross-country skier Marit Bjoergen, the reigning Olympic and world champion, has secured her fourth Olympic gold medal after coming from behind to win the women's skiathlon at Sochi.
The event at the Laura Cross-Country Ski & Biathlon Centre, which involves an equal split between classic skiing and freestyle skiing on a 15km course, saw Finland's Aino-Kaisa Saarinen and Norwegian duo Therese Johaug and Heidi Weng lead the pack towards the end.
However, the 30-year-old Bjoergen maintained her composure before launching into a sprint finish right at the death, beating Sweden's Charlotte Kalla, who took pole position at one point, into first place.
Kalla and Weng secured silver and bronze for Sweden and Norway respectively.
