Jenny Jones is "proud" and "ecstatic" to have won a medal in the women's slopestyle event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

British snowboarder Jenny Jones has said that she is "proud" and "ecstatic" to have won a medal in the women's slopestyle event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The 33-year-old, who was temporarily in a gold medal position after a strong second run, held out for bronze at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

It was Team GB's first medal of the Sochi Games and their first ever Winter Olympic success on snow.

"It feels amazing. I cannot believe it, I just can't believe it," Jones told reporters. "Even when I was in the gold medal position I knew I was going to drop but I didn't know how far. I am just so happy that I stayed on the podium.

"I'm so pleased, I'm just amazed at the situation that I'm in. I feel so proud to get on the podium. A few said 'is she past it?' but I did what I could and, thankfully, it got me on there. I feel absolutely ecstatic, I'm just so chuffed to have made it onto the podium.

"You sense the world is watching and you had to control that part of things and not let it get to you too much. I feel very proud to have won a bronze medal for my country, I can't believe it's our first on snow."

Jamie Anderson of the USA took gold with a score of 95.25, while Finland's Enni Rukajarvi picked up a silver medal with 92.50.
