Former Olympic short track speed skater Wilf O'Reilly has stated that he believes Elise Christie is capable of winning a gold medal in the sport at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
Christie has suffered heartbreak in Sochi up to this point, firstly being disqualified in the 500m final last Thursday, before being adjudged to have not crossed the finish line properly in the 1,500m heats 48 hours later.
The 23-year-old will take part in the 1,000m event tomorrow, hoping to avenge the demons of the previous week.
O'Reilly told BBC Sport: "Tomorrow, I am confident it will be the road to recovery en route to a gold medal for Elise. She is drawn in the outside lane in the seventh heat and it is business as usual. She needs to do what she has done.
"The trainers have not tried to change anything, which is a temptation, but I think she will skate nine laps and qualify for the finals.
"I thought she looked good and was relaxed in training. She was with the Chinese and the Brits were in the mix too."
Christie won a bronze medal in the 1,000m at the World Championships in Debrecen last year.
