United States skier Lindsey Vonn has announced that she will miss the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi because of a right knee injury.
The 29-year-old, who won two medals at the 2010 Games in Vancouver, tore her anterior cruciate ligament in training back in November and will not be able to recover in time for Russia next month.
In a statement released via her Facebook page, Vonn said that she "did everything" to overcome the injury but her knee is currently "too unstable".
Vonn, who is in a relationship with world number one golfer Tiger Woods, will not be able to defend the downhill title that she won in Vancouver.
She is the only US woman to win Olympic downhill gold.
