Russian president Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych have held a meeting in Sochi on the opening day of the Winter Olympics, Putin's foreign policy adviser has claimed.
The meeting between the two premiers comes amid allegations that Russia has frozen aid to the Ukraine until its political situation is more stable.
"There was a contact [between Putin and Yanukovych] in the course of [Olympic] events. It was a one-on-one during the opening events," Yuri Ushakov told reporters. The official declined to say what had been discussed or if any agreements had been reached.
65 world leaders were allegedly present at the opening ceremony of the Winter Games yesterday evening.
