Officials at the Sochi Winter Olympics have been forced to cancel a ski cross training session today, citing the warm weather as the reason for the postponement.
The temperature in the Black Sea resort town is forecast to reach 18C over the next few days, and has already affected other events and training sessions.
"Given the high temperatures and thermal stress on the SX (ski cross) course, it is not wise to train today," FIS race director Joseph Fitzgerald said in a press statement.
Alexandra Kosterina, one of the organisers of the Games, has reiterated that contingency procedures are in place at Sochi.
