Sasha Madyarchyk admits that it is disappointing to end his wrestling career on a bum note after missing out on a Commonwealth medal.

England's Sasha Madyarchyk has expressed regret that he failed to finish his wrestling career by winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Madyarchyk had to settle for fourth in Glasgow after missing out on a bronze-medal match by losing to Nigeria's Amas Daniel in the -61kg category today.

The 30-year-old is now keen to retire from the sport, and admits that "too many mistakes" cost him a place on the podium in his swansong.

"I'm not really disappointed, to be honest – I had no chance to escape from him on the mat. To be honest I lost it, he didn't win it – I made too many mistakes," he told reporters.

"This is my second Commonwealth Games – my first were a main target but this is my last competition, I'm finished after this.

"It's a relief to know that I won't be going out there again – I've been doing this for so many years that it is just time to finish. It would have been nice to finish with a medal though."

There was some success for Team England on the mat, however, as Leon Rattigan won bronze in his 97kg match.
