The International Olympic Committee has voted to drop wrestling from the 2020 Games.
The sport is now one of eight that will have to try to force inclusion when the IOC session meets in Buenos Aires in September following the 15-strong executive board's decision to exclude it.
A meeting was held today to discuss a number of events that could be dropped from the Games, and the modern pentathlon was dubbed to be the most at risk.
Baseball/softball, karate and squash will also try to be welcomed back into the programme by September this year.
The decision comes following the committee's look into the ticket sales, TV ratings and global popularity of the sports from London 2012.
