Predicting the five major feuds at 'SummerSlam'

Sports Mole predicts the five feuds that will take centre stage when WWE presents the 27th annual SummerSlam at the Staples Center in little over a month's time.

WWE's second-biggest pay-per-view of the year is just over a month away and plans for SummerSlam are beginning to take shape.

The road to the Staples Center still has to go through the potential speedbump that will be a hastily-arranged Battleground card, but in a packed few weeks for wrestling fans, the biggest party of the summer is just around the corner.

Below, Sports Mole predicts the five feuds that will take centre stage at the 27th edition of SummerSlam on August 17.

1. WWE World Heavyweight Championship match: John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

SummerSlam is a major box office event for WWE and therefore they need all of their highest-drawing stars in attendance. Brock Lesnar definitely comes into that category.

'The Beast Incarnate' has not been seen on WWE television since the RAW after astonishingly breaking The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak.

While that is an achievement perhaps beyond any title win, his eyes, and those of manager Paul Heyman, have been lingering on the shiniest prize in the business for some time now.

A teaser of the official SummerSlam poster had Lesnar face to face with John Cena, who grabbed the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank to begin his 15th world title reign.

It is almost certain that these two polar-opposite megastars will clash in the main event, in what would be a rematch from their bout at Extreme Rules 2012.

2. Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

Hatred has been building between these two former teammates ever since Seth Rollins turned his back on The Shield to become another pawn in The Authority's game.

Dean Ambrose has taken this betrayal particularly personally, but could not prevent Rollins from collecting the Money in the Bank briefcase, with an assist from Kane, a couple of weeks ago.

Twice, though, Ambrose has thwarted Rollins's attempts to cash in on a weakened Cena and clearly there is unfinished business between the pair.

It will only be a matter of time before they step into the ring one on one, probably at Battleground next Sunday, but a rivalry this fierce will not be settled with a single fight.

Expect them to go at it again at SummerSlam, and, as has been the trend in recent years, Rollins put his Money in the Bank briefcase on the line.

3. Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho

WWE have turned to another popular part-timer for one of the biggest dates in the diary, with Chris Jericho returning to RAW for the first time in nearly 12 months a fortnight ago.

Bray Wyatt and his sadistic family immediately made a beeline for Y2J as they attempt to work their way through top-tier talents one at a time.

His feud with Cena stuttered after WrestleMania so Wyatt needs to recapture some of the momentum that had been building ever since his debut last summer.

Fozzy frontman Jericho, the first ever undisputed champion, is exactly the type of credible and experienced performer that could help Wyatt achieve this by putting him over on the grand stage.

Like Rollins and Ambrose, these two will probably meet at Battleground prior to a SummerSlam bout, with 'The Eater of Worlds' likely to get an assisted victory.

Is it just us who would like to see these two in a sing-off also?

4. Tag Team Championship match: Randy Orton and Kane vs. The Usos

Tension between two of Triple H's cronies has been mounting for the last few weeks, and there is a feeling that it could spill over before long.

With Cena almost certain to retain his title in the fatal-four-way match at Battleground, that would leave two of WWE's most dependable workers with no direction heading into SummerSlam.

Having main-evented at the previous PPV, Orton and Kane are not going to drop off the card completely and thus a match could be manufactured between them.

However, they are unlikely to go at it heel versus heel, and a face turn would do nothing for either of them at present, so a matchup against Tag Team champions The Usos could work for all involved.

Jimmy and Jey seem to have held off the threat of The Wyatt Family for now, and there are not many teams queuing up to challenge them after that, so this could be a good way to ensure that Orton and Kane get the spot that they deserve.

5. Roman Reigns vs. Triple H

Anybody who watches WWE will know that this match has been in the pipeline since the first post-WrestleMania creative meeting.

Triple H and Reigns each played the leadership role when their respective factions, or former factions in the case of Reigns, met in tag action at Extreme Rules.

In the weeks following The Shield's split, 'The Game' has been focused on keeping Reigns away from the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture.

Kane and Orton don't seem to be doing a very good job of this, and so 'The King of Kings' will surely decide that if you want something doing right, do it yourself.

This will likely be the penultimate match of the evening and perhaps the best, as a 15-time world champion clashes with someone who is deemed to be the future of the company.
