Sheffield United have reportedly joined the race for Hamilton Academical youngster Lewis Latona ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 17-year-old has been brought through the academy system into the first-team thinking this season as he looks for his major break in senior football.

Latona has made a few appearances on the bench for Hamilton this term and even managed an 11-minute cameo during the 3-1 victory at Annan Athletic on April 6.

Despite being in the early years of his senior career, the midfielder has already won a piece of silverware, lifting the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2022-23.

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Hamilton will host Alloa Athletic in the second leg of their playoff match, looking to secure promotion to the Scottish Championship.

Sheffield United keen on Hamilton's Latona?

According to the Daily Record, a new club has joined the race for the services of Hamilton's Latona ahead of the upcoming summer trading point.

The report claims that Premier League strugglers Sheffield United are keen on a move for the 17-year-old, who could leave his current club before the start of next season.

Following a difficult campaign under a mixture of Paul Heckingbottom and Chris Wilder, the Blades know that they will be plying their trade in the Championship next term.

United are currently sitting rock bottom of the Premier League table, 13 points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest with just two matches remaining.

Alongside the Blades, it is also believed that Belgian second-tier outfit Beerschot Wilrijk are taking an interest in Latona ahead of the summer window.

Hull City 'to rival Sheffield United for Latona'

As well as from the continent, Sheffield United are also set to face competition from Championship side Hull for the services of midfielder Latona.

Hamilton boss John Rankin has confirmed that the 17-year-old recently spent a period on trial at the Tigers as he assesses a possible move to England.

There is plenty of attention on Hull at the moment following the club's decision to part ways with Liam Rosenior ahead of the new season.

The 39-year-old guided the Tigers to seventh place in the Championship in 2023-24, missing out on a playoff position to Norwich City by just three points. body check tags ::
