New Zealand wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi reveals that he was pleased with his performance on his Test debut as he scored 88 against England at Headingley.

New Zealand wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi has admitted that he was pleased with his display on his Test debut against England at Headingley.

The 34-year-old made 88 for the Kiwis off just 70 balls to rebuild their innings and leave them in a solid position at the end of day one on 297-8 following an excellent partnership with Tom Latham.

Ronchi has confessed that he was happy with his performance given the circumstances, despite narrowly missing out on a century on debut.

He told Sky Sports News: "It was a good day. To make 300 on day one in 65 overs is a pretty good effort, especially after being 2-2. We were pushing the game along at a good run-rate. People were just doing their natural thing.

"I've had a decent first day. I've dreamed of playing Test cricket for as long as I've known the game. It's late in my career but it's still pretty cool.

"I wanted to make sure I didn't go out there and not play naturally. It'd be an injustice in my mind. I wouldn't play the innings any differently. I can't complain; I got 88 and am more than happy with that."

The Kiwis need to beat the Three Lions at Headingley to avoid a series defeat.
