Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel signs a new three-year contract at Trent Bridge and targets a recall to the England side after two years in international exile.

All-rounder Samit Patel has signed a three-year contract to extend his stay at boyhood club Nottinghamshire.

The 30-year-old has averaged 38.95 with the bat since making his first-class debut in 2002 and is regarded as one of the most valuable white-ball players on the county circuit.

Patel has played for England in every format, with his last international appearance in 2013, and hopes that continuing to star at Notts will help him earn a recall.

"Spending such a long time at a club the size of Notts is an honour, and I didn't think twice about extending my contract," Patel told the club's official website.

"I still harbour England ambitions and playing with Nottinghamshire will give me the best chance of doing that."

He added: "There's no better place to play cricket than Trent Bridge. I want to see us carry on competing and winning trophies. I've played here all my life and this club has given me a lot. I want to carry on giving back."

Patel scored 1,125 County Championship runs and also took 23 wickets during the 2014 season.
