The BBC concludes a new deal with the SPFL for coverage of Scottish football until 2029.

The BBC has concluded a new deal with the SPFL for continued coverage of Scottish football until 2029.

The news means that live TV coverage of Scottish Championship games, Scottish Premiership TV highlights and radio coverage of the leagues will remain with the BBC for an additional four years beyond the end of the current agreement, due to expire in 2025.

The BBC Scotland channel will broadcast 20 Championship games a season live on Friday nights and Sportscene will remain home of highlights of the action from the top division.

"We're delighted we've reached this agreement with the SPFL which further strengthens our commitment to provide extensive coverage of the top tiers of the game," said Louise Thornton, head of commissioning at BBC Scotland.

"Live Championship football has become a popular fixture of the Friday night schedule on the BBC Scotland channel, so it's great news that will continue for at least another five seasons.

"Combining that with the broad slate of live radio coverage and tv and online highlights from the Premiership over the same period is brilliant news for our audiences."

The deal complements Sky Sports' deal for the SPFL, which will rise from 48 live games a season to 60 starting from 2024-25.
