Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's injury and suspension news ahead of their FA Cup third-round clash with Liverpool on Sunday.
Sports Mole

Beginning their next quest for a record-extending 15th FA Cup crown, Arsenal welcome Liverpool to the Emirates for a blockbuster third-round tie on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners last lifted the prestigious crown aloft behind closed doors in 2020, but they have failed to make it past the fourth round since, losing at that stage to Manchester City in last year's edition.

Mikel Arteta's men also head into their opening fixture of 2024 on the back of a disappointing set of Premier League results, only taking four points from the last 15 on offer to slip down to fourth place in the table.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with the Reds, who saw off Newcastle United 4-2 on Monday.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Status: Out
Type of injury: International
Possible return date: Unknown

Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu made his return from a calf injury against Fulham on New Year's Eve, but he will be unavailable for a number of weeks as he represents his country at the Asian Cup.

Mohamed Elneny

Status: Out
Type of injury: International
Possible return date: Unknown

Similarly, Mohamed Elneny has been called up to play for Egypt at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and will miss a few matches at the very least, although he is little more than a bit-part player these days anyway.

Jurrien Timber

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Jurrien Timber continues to make strong progress in his recovery from an ACL injury, but the Dutchman is still a long way from being back to full fitness, which could supposedly be achieved in March.

Thomas Partey

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

Thomas Partey was initially believed to have had a strong chance of coming back from thigh surgery for the third-round tie, but he was a notable omission from Ghana's AFCON squad, with national team head coach Chris Hughton describing his problem as one of the most serious he has faced in his career. As a result, a comeback this weekend is seemingly off the cards.

Fabio Vieira

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: January 20 (vs. Crystal Palace)

Fabio Vieira underwent an operation on a groin problem towards the end of November, and while a comeback this month is not beyond the realm of possibility, Sunday's game will come too soon.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: January 7 (vs. Liverpool)

Oleksandr Zinchenko sat out the loss to Fulham on December 31 with a calf injury and was sent for scans earlier this week, but he is progressing well and might be in with a chance of coming back this weekend.
