Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Women's Super League clash between Aston Villa Women and Everton Ladies, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Aston Villa Women emerged victorious against Everton Ladies in their last outing, and Carla Ward's side will have the opportunity to claim a league double over the Toffees when the two clubs do battle in the Women's Super League on Wednesday.

The hosts enter the contest in ninth place, while Everton are five points worse off in 11th position.

Match preview

Aston Villa will be looking to replicate the 2-0 victory that they achieved over the Toffees in their last outing, when they face Everton in a rescheduled contest that was supposed to take place in January,

Goals from Emily Gielnik and Ramana Petzelberger helped the Villans to an away win in the reverse fixture on February 13.

While they are not in danger of being relegated, Villa will be slightly underwhelmed with their current league position, but they have the chance to move up the table in their remaining eight league games.

Ward will be encouraged by her team's recent results, with two of their last three league matches resulting in victory.

Although, what will concern the Villa boss is that her side have lost their last eight home games in all competitions, with the Villans shipping 18 goals across those contests.

While Aston Villa have not played since the reverse fixture between the two sides, Everton were in action at the weekend as they faced Charlton Athletic in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Kenza Dali ensured that the Toffees would go into half time in the lead before Anna Anvegard struck in the second half to wrap up the victory and Everton's subsequent progression to the quarter-finals.

Everton will now turn their attention back to league action as they look to collect just their fourth league victory of the season.

The Toffees enter the midweek contest seven points clear of the one and only relegation place, and they will be aiming to quell any relegation fears with three points on Wednesday.

Although, Everton's recent league form will not provide the visitors with any sort of encouragement, with their previous four league fixtures all ending in defeat.

Team News

Sophie Haywood has returned from a long injury layoff to be an unused substitute in Aston Villa's last three matches, and she is expected to be on the bench once again for the Everton encounter

With their last outing being the 2-0 away win over the Toffees, Ward could name an unchanged lineup for the midweek contest.

Gielnik scored her second league goal of the season against Everton and the Australia international will be aiming to add to that tally in midweek.

Meanwhile, the visitors are still without the services of Nicoline Sorensen, who remains a long-term injury absentee.

Anvegard is expected to return to the starting lineup after coming on as a second-half substitute to score in the FA Cup victory over Charlton.

Claire Emslie could also come back into the starting XI after dropping to the bench for the cup fixture.

Aston Villa Women possible starting lineup:
Hampton; Mayling, Patten, Asante, Pacheco; Littlejohn, Scott, Allen; Lehmann, Petzelberger, Gielnik

Everton Ladies possible starting lineup:
MacIver; Maier, Finnigan, George, Turner; Christiansen, Galli; Emslie, Dali, Duggan; Anvegard

We say: Aston Villa Women 2-1 Everton Ladies

Two wins from their last three league games suggests that Aston Villa are on the up, and with Everton continuing to struggle in the WSL, we think that the hosts will claim a narrow victory on Wednesday.
