Paul Lambert: 'Language issues have caused Aston Villa struggles'

Ex-Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert claims that the team's struggles this season could be blamed on their recruitment of a number of players from overseas during the summer.

Former Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has claimed that the team's struggles this season could be down to their recruitment of several players from overseas during the summer.

Tim Sherwood, who succeeded Lambert as Villa boss in February, was dismissed on Sunday after a run of six straight Premier League defeats.

Lambert has said that having brought the likes of Jordan Amavi, Jordan Ayew, Jordan Veretout, Adama Traore and Jose Angel Crespo in during the transfer window, there could have been communication problems among the Villa players.

"The dressing room seems to be all mixed languages," Lambert told talkSPORT.

"When you get into a dressing room and it's your culture and there are a lot of foreign lads in there, I think the foreign lads have got to know the language.

"When I played in Germany, I thought I am going to have to learn really quickly so I knew the football language on the pitch. Looking at Villa at the moment, I'm not so sure a lot of the lads know what's hit them."

Remi Garde, Nigel Pearson and Bob Bradley have all been linked with the manager's job at Villa Park.
