Neil McDonald praises 'battling' Blackpool display in Millwall draw

Blackpool manager Neil McDonald puts his side's 1-1 draw against Millwall last time out down to a newfound belief in the dressing room.

Neil McDonald has claimed that Blackpool's 1-1 draw with Millwall goes a long way to showing just how much his side have improved in recent weeks.

The Seasiders fell behind to a first-half Mark Beevers strike, before battling back to earn a point thanks to Jack Redshaw's penalty eight minutes from time.

Blackpool have now gone five games without defeat in all competitions, having lost five of their opening six fixtures, and McDonald was quick to praise his team's newfound fighting spirit in the Bloomfield Road stalemate.

"I think if that had happened in the first few games of the season we'd have lost the game," he is quoted as saying by the Blackpool Gazette.

"It shows how the players are trying to battle for the tangerine shirt. They don't want to be beaten. We always want to try to get three points, but if we can't then we'll always respect a point.

"I think the players are much stronger mentally now. I think everyone can see a difference from the first few home games to where we are now. We are undefeated in five and are showing real character now. We aren't the finished article by any means but we are improving."

Despite their recent resurgence, Blackpool are still inside the League One relegation zone after playing 13 games.
