Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe admits that he was gutted to see victory snatched away from his side by a stoppage-time equaliser from Sheffield Wednesday at Dean Court.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has admitted that it was "heartbreaking" to see his side denied victory against Sheffield Wedneday by a stoppage-time penalty.

The Owls took the lead in the first half at Dean Court through Kieran Lee, but Howe's men battled back to take a 2-1 advantage late in the game, despite being reduced to 10 men when Simon Francis was dismissed.

However, the Cherries were unable to hold out for the victory as the visitors were awarded a penalty when Harry Arter brought down Atdhe Nuhiu, leaving Chris Maguire to put a dent in Bournemouth's promotion hopes.

"That really is tough to take," Howe Sky Sports News. "That is the reason why we love the game, with its drama and twists and turns even in one game. It was a heartbreaking end to the game for us.

"Even though we have had the most successful season in the club's history, we have had many moments when we have felt low and down and we have to respond to adversity.

"We only have two games to go now and again our objective is very clear. If we do that then we will be where we want to be."

Bournemouth are second in the Championship, but are level on points with third-placed Middlesbrough with two games remaining this season.
