Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe believes that his side put in a dominant display in their 3-1 away win against Wigan Athletic in the Championship.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe feels that his side were dominant in their 3-1 victory over Wigan Athletic after receiving a "helping hand" for their first goal.

The Cherries took the lead when Callum Wilson latched onto Yann Kermorgant's flick on and slotted the ball past Ali Al-Habsi, although replays suggested that the striker was yards offside.

In the second half, Howe's men took control of the game as Kermorgant added their second goal and Wilson completed his brace to secure a victory which was never under threat despite a late strike from Wigan's Leon Clarke.

"I thought Wigan made a decent start to the game, but once we got hold of the ball and got our passing game sorted I thought we dominated," Howe told Sky Sports News.

"Although the first goal was controversial and gave us a helping hand, it was no more than we deserved and it was a comfortable victory for us.

"I was surprised the flag didn't go up, I have to be honest. It was a harsh one for them to take. It's obviously a pleasing one for us. But we had one of those happen to us at Leeds, when we scored a perfectly good goal that was disallowed for offside, so it's swings and roundabouts."

Bournemouth remain top of the Championship table with 17 games left to play this season.
