Cardiff City come from a goal down to secure a 3-2 win over Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff City had to come from behind to secure a 3-2 victory over Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly at the Cardiff City Stadium this evening.

The Championship side had the brighter start of the two teams as Adam Federici had to make a save less than five minutes in, with Peter Whittingham attempting a long-range effort.

Joe Mason had a couple of half-chances for the Welsh side, but he fired the first well high before being halted by Sylvain Distin while looking to get back in a shooting position.

Despite Cardiff's early dominance, it was the newly-promoted Premier League club that broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark when Tokelo Rantie rounded the keeper before slotting into an empty net, having already beaten two defenders.

It did not take the visitors long to get back on level terms though, with Whittingham playing the ball in for Joe Ralls, who clinically fired past Federici.

There was more from Cardiff before the interval as Alex Revell hit the ball first time from close range shortly after Sean Morrison had had a ball cleared off the line, putting the hosts in front for the first time.

Russell Slade's side extended their lead further shortly after the restart as Revell used his pace to break into the box before powering his second past Federici, who got a hand to it but was unable to prevent the ball crossing the line.

Bournemouth reduced the deficit with 20 minutes to go after a quick break set up Marc Pugh, who turned just inside the penalty area before driving the ball in.

Chances remained at a premium in the final 15 minutes as Bournemouth were unable to threaten the Cardiff goal in pursuit of a late equaliser, handing their lower-league opponents the victory.
