Demba Ba expresses sympathy for former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard

Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba says that Steven Gerrard must find it "difficult to live with" the error that cost Liverpool the Premier League title in 2013-14.

Demba Ba has admitted that he has "a degree of sympathy" for Steven Gerrard, six years to the day since the Liverpool skipper's costly slip effectively cost his side the Premier League title.

The Reds required seven points from their final three league matches in 2013-14 to seal top spot, only to suffer a 2-0 loss at the hands of Chelsea at Anfield.

The match is best remembered for Gerrard's error that Ba made the most of to open the scoring, with Willian going on to double the Blues' tally.

Manchester City went on to snatch the title from Liverpool, and Ba acknowledged that it must be tough for Gerrard to accept.

"I think it must be difficult to live with," he told Sky Sports News.

"You know if I put myself in his shoes, which I really didn't up until now, but it must be terrible for a player that played so long for one team and that has played so great for one team, basically losing a title on a mistake that he has done.

"Of course [I have] a degree of sympathy, yeah maybe. I'm not really thinking about it too much."

Gerrard won eight major honours with Liverpool but never lifted the Premier League trophy.
