David Silva: 'We can stop Diego Costa'

Manchester City midfielder David Silva insists that his side are capable of shutting down Chelsea forward Diego Costa in their Premier League clash on Sunday.

Manchester City midfielder David Silva is adamant that his side can stop Chelsea striker Diego Costa in their match on Sunday.

Costa has netted seven times in four matches in the Premier League for Jose Mourinho's side since his £32m move from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Silva has admitted that he has been impressed with how quickly the 25-year-old has adapted to the top flight of English football, making it vitally important for him and his teammates to quell his impact.

He told reporters: "Diego has made a huge impact. He's scored seven times so far, so that record speaks for itself. That's very important for Chelsea, but not that good for us. But we've got a good defence and I believe we can stop him on Sunday.

"It's not easy to adapt to the Premier League, but he has clearly done it very quickly. [Cesc] Fabregas, of course, knew the Premier League before, from his time at Arsenal. Some players adapt quicker than others but it's never easy.

"But it's really all about how the team plays. We've got a strong team, we're a big club and our aim as always is to go out and win the game."

City face Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
