Crystal Palace scrape past West Ham United thanks to a single goal from Marouane Chamakh, lifting them off the bottom of the Premier League.

Crystal Palace have secured their third win of the Premier League campaign - and first under Tony Pulis - at home to West Ham United this evening.

Marouane Chamakh scored the only goal of the game just before the break at Selhurst Park, which lifts the Eagles off the bottom of the Premier League.

The Hammers were much the better team in the opening 45 minutes, with their first big opportunity falling to Kevin Nolan in the 31st minute thanks to a good ball in from Stewart Downing.

However, the captain scuffed his effort into the arms of Julian Speroni.

The former Liverpool winger was proving to be a handful for the home side, and carved out another chance for Mohamed Diame, but the Senegal international headed over the crossbar.

Sam Allardyce's men fell behind in the 42nd minute, when Chamakh flicked Barry Bannan's cross beyond Jussi Jaaskelainen, marking the first goal of Pulis's reign in South London.

Palace were twice denied a second by the Finnish stopper after the break, as first Bannan and then Cameron Jerome were left frustrated.

Downing thought that he had equalised when he lashed into the net from a rebounded free kick with 15 minutes remaining, but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Jimmy Kebe should have put the game beyond doubt deep into injury time but blazed over the bar after Jaaskelainen had come off his line and gotten nowhere.
