Denmark will play their final game in preparation for the European Championships when they host Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday.

The Nordic nation are looking strong ahead of the tournament, which their opponents failed to qualify for after losing in the playoffs.

Match preview

Denmark have only lost two of their last 25 matches – both against Belgium in the Nations League – and could be dark horses at the Euros; they will face Finland, Belgium and Russia in Group B.

Under Age Hareide, they went through qualifying for the tournament unbeaten before Kasper Hjulmand took over last year. The 49-year-old has overseen eight wins from 11 matches, while the team drew 1-1 with Germany on Wednesday.

They trailed just after hal ftime in Innsbruck, but Yussuf Poulsen slammed home an equaliser in the 71st minute in what was Denmark's only shot on target in the game.

The Danes thrashed Moldova 8-0 in their last home game in March – with six different goalscorers – and have only lost one match in their own country since October 2016.

However, Denmark have only won one of their five previous games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and that was the first time the two nations met back in 1997.

The Balkan country had been a member of FIFA for less than a year at that point, but over the last two and a half decades they have cemented themselves on the international scene and been on the brink of multiple major tournaments.

Bosnia qualified for the 2014 World Cup, but have lost in the playoffs for the last three European Championships. In trying to reach this summer's competition, they were beaten on penalties by Northern Ireland in the playoff semi-finals.

Since then, Ivaylo Petev has replaced Dusan Bajevic in the dugout, but the Bulgarian has drawn three and lost one of his first four games in charge. Bosnia have not actually won an international match since November 2019, going 12 games without victory since then.

They played out a 0-0 stalemate with Montenegro in a friendly on Wednesday, the seventh time in nine games that they have failed to score.

Sunday's game will be the last chance that Petev has to experiment with his squad before Bosnia resume their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign with a trip to France in September.

Team News

Denmark's defence will be bolstered by Andreas Christensen, who has joined up with the squad after playing in last weekend's Champions League final with Chelsea.

Christian Eriksen remains his country's talisman having not missed an international game for nearly three years; he would become his country's joint-fourth most capped player if he features on Sunday.

Wednesday's goalscorer Yussuf Poulsen, who usually starts on the wing for Denmark, may keep his place as the central striker ahead of Kasper Dolberg and Jonas Wind.

Several big names have been left out of Bosnia's squad this month, including the country's two most capped players Edin Dzeko and Miralem Pjanic; the former is also their captain and record goalscorer. Sead Kolasinac and Rade Krunic have been ruled out through injury.

In their absence, Eldar Civic and Smail Prevljak are the only ones in the squad to have netted an international goal. Goalkeeper Ibrahim Sehic is the only player with more than 16 caps, with 35 appearances for his country to his name.

Ivaylo Petev handed out four debuts against Montenegro, while Ajdin Nukic and Andrej Dokanovic – two of the three players in the squad who play in the Bosnian top flight – will hope to make their bows on Sunday.

Denmark possible starting lineup:
Schmeichel; Wass, Kjaer, Christensen, Maehle; Hojbjerg, Delaney; Skov Olsen, Eriksen, Braithwaite; Poulsen

Bosnia-Herzegovina possible starting lineup:
Sehic; Jovicic, Ahmedhodzic, Hadzikadunic; Todorovic, Hadziahmetovic, Danilovic, Besirovic, Civic; Demirovic, Prevljak

We say: Denmark 3-0 Bosnia-Herzegovina

If Denmark are looking for a confidence boost ahead of the Euros, this may be the perfect game. It should be a fairly straightforward task for Eriksen and co to dispatch of a Bosnia side that are on a poor run of results and missing their star players.
