England manager Roy Hodgson picks Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere for next week's friendly against Sweden, while Liverpool's Raheem Sterling receives a call-up.

England manager Roy Hodgson has called Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere into his squad for next week's international friendly against Sweden.

The 20-year-old recently returned to action for the Gunners following a 17-month layoff with ankle and knee injuries and the midfielder should add to his four appearances for the Three Lions next week.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger recently expressed his concern in Wilshere being called up into the England squad and urged Hodgson to leave out the midfielder as he continues to regain full match fitness.

Wilshere, who is currently serving a domestic suspension after picking up a red card in the Gunners' 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last weekend, has been joined by Liverpool youngster Raheem Sterling, who is in contention to receive his first senior cap for the Three Lions.

Everton's Leon Osman and Tottenham Hotspur's Steven Caulker have also been included in the squad, while Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who played in last night's Champions League 2-1 win over Barcelona, has been handed a spot in the set-up.

England squad to play Sweden:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Celtic), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Tottenham Hotspur), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City), Kyle Walker(Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders: Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham Hotspur), Leon Osman (Everton), Jonjo Shelvey (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Ashley Young (Manchester United)

Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)
