How Germany could line up against Liechtenstein

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Germany could line up for Thursday's World Cup Qualifying clash with Liechtenstein.

Germany get back on the road to Qatar 2022 this week, as they meet Liechtenstein in St. Gallen, expecting to take all three points from their European Qualifying Group J encounter.

New Bundestrainer Hansi Flick has selected a familiar-looking squad, following an early Euro 2020 exit and a hit-and-miss start to the World Cup qualification process, with the bulk of his starting XI likely to be made up of his former charges at Bayern Munich.

The forward line could include Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry, behind Chelsea's Kai Havertz, while teenage talent Jamal Musiala is a contender to feature at some stage.

Fellow Bayern men Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka should start in midfield, while captain Manuel Neuer continues as the formidable last line of defence and Niklas Sule joins another Chelsea employee, Antonio Rudiger, in a solid centre-back pairing.

Though many of the old guard remain, 18-year-old Musiala is joined by Florian Wirtz (also 18) and Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi (19), and that trio may also be offered the chance to make a mark in this less challenging fixture, before Germany take on Armenia and Iceland in the coming week.

David Raum and Nico Schlotterbeck join the latter pair as uncapped names in Flick's first selection, while right-back Ridle Baku made his debut last November and could contend with Lukas Klostermann for a place in the back four on Thursday night.

With three games to fit into an action-packed week, the new coach is likely to rotate between matches, but making a strong start to his reign will be a priority, so most of Germany's main men are ready to start at Liechtenstein's temporary home.

Germany possible starting lineup: Neuer; Klostermann, Sule, Rudiger, Gosens; Kimmich, Goretzka; Sane, Muller, Gnabry; Havertz body check tags ::
