Heerenveen held Vitesse to a 0-0 draw at the Abe Lenstra Stadion in the Eredivisie.
Chelsea loanee Lewis Baker had a chance early on in the game but the 20-year-old's shot was well saved by Heerenveen goalkeeper Erwin Mulder.
Luciano Slagveer then came close for Heerenveen as his shot from a difficult angle was stopped by Eloy Room before Kenny Otigba missed a header from a corner moments later.
Milot Rashica then wasted a good chance for Vitesse after Sheran Yeini headed the ball to the 19-year-old but he could only hit his strike straight at Mulder in goal.
Denys Oliynyk had an opportunity either side of the half-time break, with his first effort being blocked by the Heerenveen defence before his long-range strike was well saved by Mulder low to his left.
Yeini had a chance for Vitesse midway through the second half but his header was easily saved before Joey van den Berg saw his late effort saved well in the top corner by Mulder.
Vitesse jump into the European playoff places with the point while Heerenveen remain in 11th spot.
