Sports Mole

Jordan will entertain the challenge of European heavyweights Spain in an international friendly matchup between the sides on Thursday evening.

Both teams are on a good run of results heading into their meeting at the Amman International Stadium, and the clash has all the makings of an exciting watch.

Match preview

Spain made it through to the semi-finals of 2022-23 UEFA Nations League in dramatic fashion thanks to a 1-0 victory over Portugal at the Estadio Municipal de Braga on September 27.

With Luis Enrique's men heading for the exit as the game approached its final knockings, Alvaro Morata's close-range finish from Nico Williams's knockdown in the 88th minute was enough to get the job done.

As a result, La Roja have now won five of their eight matches across all competitions since the turn of the year, losing just once in that time.

Awaiting them next is a first-ever meeting against an opposing outfit who are 77 places below in the most recent FIFA rankings for male national teams.

Ahead of the start of their World Cup campaign six days later, Thursday's visitors will be looking to put on a show in their final involvement before football's biggest event takes centre stage.

Jordan saw off the threat of Oman in a narrow 1-0 victory when the teams faced off against each other in a warm-up fixture on September 26.

Ehsan Haddad broke the deadlock in the 66th minute when he kept his cool to convert from 12 yards, and that proved to be the all-important moment for Adnan Hamad's men.

The Chivalrous Ones have now come out on top in each of their last five games by a combined score of 9-0, highlighting their efficiency at both ends of the pitch.

Currently on a perfect record on home turf since the turn of the year, Thursday's hosts now go in search of what would be undoubtedly be their most impressive result in front of their fans.

Team News

Aiming to avoid losing any of his regular starters ahead of the World Cup, Luis Enrique may field a relatively weaker starting XI, which could see the likes of Hugo Guillamon and Yeremy Pino get the nod.

Twenty-year-old Nico Williams has made an early impression in his early Spain career and will also be pushing for a place in the lineup having grabbed his fourth goal of the season on Sunday.

Cesar Azpilicueta was hauled off at half time in Chelsea's 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United at the weekend, making the defender an injury doubt for this one.

Jordan's leading goalscorer of all time Hamza Al-Dardour has been named in his side's 27-man squad for Thursday's encounter and will be one to keep an eye on.

Twenty-eight-year-old Ali Olwan is aiming to score for a fourth consecutive home appearance for the hosts off the back of four strikes in his last three games.

Jordan possible starting lineup:
Laila; Al-Zoubi, Obaid, Hashish, Yassin; Al-Hourani, Samir, Al-Rawabdeh; Olwan, Al-Dardour, Al-Naimat

Spain possible starting lineup:
Simon; Carvajal, Guillamon, Garcia, Gaya; Soler, Gavi, Busquets; Pino, Torres, Williams

We say: Jordan 1-3 Spain

Jordan have been imperious on home turf of late, but the visit of Spain is set to be a tough assignment nonetheless. We are backing the away side to cruise to a routine win at the end of the 90 minutes.
