Los Angeles Galaxy earned a crucial home win over Sporting Kansas City as strikes from Marcelo Sarvas and Landon Donovan earned them the victory.
The Galaxy made a good start to the game and could have been ahead in the 10th minute when Mike Magee drilled a volley at goal, but Jimmy Nielsen made a good save.
Kansas City responded and Graham Zusi was unlucky not to find the net when his free kick bent over the wall but crashed against the crossbar and was cleared.
The home side took advantage of this fortune as they took the lead on a counter-attack when Donovan raided down the left and squared for Sarvas to tap the ball into the net.
After the break, the Galaxy doubled their lead, this time Robbie Keane turned provider on another counter as he raced the length of the field before squaring to Donovan who slotted the ball home.
Keane had two more chances to open his account for the evening but couldn't find a way past Nielsen but the hosts closed out the win with ease.
