Leeds United have completed the signing of Weston McKennie from Juventus on an initial loan deal until the end of the season, subject to a work permit.
The 24-year-old moves to Elland Road with a view to making a permanent transfer in the summer for a fee believed to be in the region of €33m (£28.9m) plus add-ons.
McKennie becomes Jesse Marsch's third signing of the January transfer window after the arrivals of Maximilian Wober and Georginio Rutter, the latter of whom joining for a club-record fee.
Born in the State of Washington, McKennie began his youth career with FC Phonix Otterbach and FC Dallas before moving to Germany with Schalke 04 in August 2016.
The midfielder made his professional debut less than a year later and went on to become a key player for the Bundesliga club, featuring 91 times across all competitions.
Serie A giants Juventus then snapped up McKennie on an initial loan deal in the summer of 2020 before making his move permanent for around €20.5m (£18m) a year later.
McKennie featured 29 times during an injury-hit campaign for the Turin-based outfit in 2021-22, before starting 18 of his 21 appearances this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
The box-to-box midfielder is an established USA international having represented his country 41 times in total, and he will now link up with compatriots Marsch, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams at Elland Road.
McKennie is available to make his Leeds debut when they travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday. body check tags ::
