Jordan Henderson has claimed that he is "very optimistic" about the new-look England squad.
The Three Lions have seen Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard retire after the World Cup, while Wayne Rooney was nominated as the new captain by manager Roy Hodgson.
Ahead of the meeting with Norway at Wembley on Wednesday, the Liverpool midfielder said that he is looking forward to seeing how the new players bed in.
He told reporters: "We've got a lot of young players here, a lot of potential. The main thing is we go out there and do it, we have to put in performances and show people how good we are.
"I'm still very optimistic about what we can achieve. I know everyone else around us can criticise us, but at the end of the day we believe we can improve and that's what we're looking to do."
Henderson was part of the Liverpool side that beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 on Sunday.
